Eval q. 2 COMBO OF MAIN AND ANCILLARIES

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?

We created a poster and radio trailer to promote our short film. All three products must work together as they are synergetic products and are needed to gain recognition for our short film. Our ancillary products must include things that will relate to our short film thus creating a relationship between the main and the ancillary products.



My poster is succesful in attracting our target audience to our film. Our target audience is teenage girls. The main way that I attract our target audience to watch our film is I believe via the poster.

 The use of a young girl around a similar age of our target audience convinces our target audience to watch it. For Blumer and Katz, "Audiences watch films for surveillance, diversion, values and relationships", also known as gratifications theory. 

The use of having the protagonist in the poster is that our target audience will want to see the film to decide whether they relate to this young girl and form a relationship with her, as this is a short film, its important a relationship and bond between protagonist and audience happens very quickly.

The female protagonist, Daisy, is a large feature in the poster, and is thought provoking just like the film itself.

Another part of the audience uses and gratifications model is diversion. Our target audience are young girls who enjoy chick flicks. The twists in the film are seen as diversion from the real world. 

Our poster works well in giving out information which therefore helps our audience to look more into our short film. The release date is included which gives our target audience the opportunity to research more into the plot of the film before it comes out. Along with this I have chosen to include our social media site usernames such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. This gives them the opportunity to see more into the story line of the film by following our social media accounts. 

Another aspects is values. They will see whether their values are within the film to see how the protagonist deals with the situation she is put in to decide how they would act. 

Finally surveillance applies as they can watch and decide whether they have ever had situations like this (a girl following her dreams). This is why our poster works so well to promote our film, it gives many reasons for our target audience to watch the film. Along with our target audience being of a similar age, they are also people who like chick flicks.

The tag line “Todays the perfect day...to start living your dream” is thought provoking, and links well with the story line in the film. When the audience watch the film they will relate the motivational tagline to the moral of the film.  

The small icon pictures on the film poster, link with every dream that Daisy has in the film. This will help the audience link the film poster and short film together. It will remind them of what originally enticed them to watch.




The release date is on both the radio trailer and poster, creating synergy.

The short film and radio trailer work together through the script. We hear 3 different voices in the radio trailer, all of which are character in the short film. This helps the audience to  feel as though they already know the basis of the characters when watching the film.

Another way that the radio trailer promotes the short film  is the way that we have the leitmotif. The leitmotif is the main soundtrack of the radio trailer and our short film. This is extremely important for people to create a connection with a piece of music and a character. This means that they are more likely to remember the film and the character if there is a recognisable piece of music.
